As expected Ohio State transfer quarterback Justin Fields has been granted his eligibility effective immediately.
So what does this mean for head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes?
A question that could be answered during Spring ball.
Now that Justin Fields can immediately play and compete, the quarterback room just got quite interesting. Many expect Fields to be the starting quarterback in 2019, Matthew Baldwin will likely compete with Fields to become Dwayne Haskins’ replacement. Replacing a guy who threw for 4,841 yards and 50 touchdowns, a Heisman finalist and Big Ten player of the year will not be an easy task.
What can you expect from Justin Fields?
Justin Fields was the 2018 top dual-threat quarterback coming out of high school before committing to the University of Georgia. Fields can beat you with his strong arm and his running ability. Expect head coach Ryan Day and new passing coordinator Mike Yurcich to help Fields work on his accuracy. Not every quarterback that suits up for the Scarlet and Gray is a Dwayne Haskins or a Troy Smith. Even Haskins and Smith had to work on their accuracy to be able to put up the numbers they had in their career seasons.
Now that Fields is ready to compete, look for the 2019 spring and summer camps to have high intensity practices to get ready for a third straight Big Ten Championship and a potential trip to the College Football Playoff.
