Big Ten Briefing

Let’s take a look at the Big Ten Conference as the basketball and hockey seasons are winding down and the baseball season ramps up.

Basketball

  1. Purdue: 15-3 (22-7)
  2. Michigan: 15-4 (26-4)
  3. Michigan State: 14-4 (23-6)
  4. Wisconsin: 12-6 (20-9)
  5. Maryland: 12-7 (21-9)
  6. Iowa: 10-8 (21-8)
  7. Minnesota: 8-10 (18-11)
  8. Ohio State: 8-10 (18-11)
  9. Rutgers: 7-11 (14-14)
  10. Illinois: 7-11 (11-18)
  11. Indiana: 6-12 (15-14)
  12. Nebraska: 5-13 (15-14)
  13. Penn State: 5-13 (12-17)
  14. Northwestern: 3-15 (12-17)

Purdue has used a late season surge to vault into the top spot, as Maryland and Wisconsin jockey for the No. 4 seed and last double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament. The tournament starts next Wednesday, March 13. Maryland wraps their season up against Minnesota on Friday, March 8 and Wisconsin still has games against Iowa March 7, and Ohio State March 10 to determine the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament.

Hockey

The Big Ten Hockey Tournament starts this Friday, March 8 with three best-of-three series. No. 2 Notre Dame will host No. 7 Michigan State, No. 3 Minnesota will host No. 6 Michigan, and No. 4 Penn State will host No. 5 Wisconsin. The lowest seed to advance will play the Top-seed Buckeyes, who are on a bye due to winning the Conference in the regular season, on March 17.

Baseball

Baseball season is just getting underway but there are some good looking teams so far!

Teams will begin their conference slates on the weekend of March 22. We can’t wait to see how this conference stands next week.
