The Ohio State Buckeyes got a much needed victory as they snap a five game skid. The Buckeyes would score the most runs in a home opener in 12 seasons. They stopped the Lipscomb Bisons from extending their win streak to six games.
Dominic Canzone knocked in the speedy Noah West in the first inning after West was walked. In the second inning freshman infielder Zach Dezenzo got his bat rolling in the with a solo homerun making the score 2-0.
The day continued to get worse for the Lipsocmb pitchers. With a 6-1 lead and two men on the freshman Dezenzo would hit his second home run of the game, extending the lead to 8-1. On the very next pitch fifth-year-senior Ridge Winand hit his first triple of the season. However, the Buckeyes were not done knocking in runs. Noah West would hit a double which scored Winand. After Canzone would walk, and Brady Cherry hit a RBI single to extend the lead to 12-1. On the next at bat Conner Pohl’s single would score Cherry from first. The lead after the fifth inning would be 13-1.
In the sixth inning Lipscomb finally got the bats rolling after a couple runs by Haddon Adams and Jackson Furstace. The Ohio State lead was cut to 13-3. The bottom of the sixth inning Ridge Winand would hit a double on the first pitch. After stealing third, Winand would score from third on a wild pitch. Ohio State led 14-3 the end of six.
The freshman right hander Garrett Burhenn would have a strong outing. Burhenn would allow three walks, five strike outs and three runs on just three hits in the victory.
Game two of the three game series is tomorrow March 16, 2019. First pitch at 3:05 p.m. On the mound for the Buckeyes is left hander Seth Lonsway who has struggled this year with a record of 1-2 and a ERA of 7.27. Lipscomb will throw out there another struggling pitcher with lefty Noah Thompson who is 0-3 and a ERA of 14.10.
