In what they say is the fiercest rivalry in the state of Ohio the Capital Crusaders hosted the Cardinals from Otterbein. The Cardinals came into the game wanting to avenge their early season defeat to Capital 80-60 on December 7th. It was a hot first quarter for the Crusaders as the jumped out to a 11-4 lead. Head coach of Otterbein Dianna Noles had to use her first time out early do to the fast start by Capital. Crusaders senior Cassidy Bosch was fantastic in the first quarter. Bosch would finish with 10 points and a steal. Bosch brought the energy. At the end quarter the score was 23-16.
In the second quarter it was all Capital. The Crusaders were in complete control jumping out early into the second with a 33-16 lead. The Crusaders would play very tight defense and it would take nearly five minutes before Otterbein would get their first bucket of the quarter.
Capital would go into the half up 40-23. Cassidy Bosch would lead all scorers with 13 points and 3-for-3 behind the arc, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. Caroline Taphorn had 8 points and 3 assists. Capital shot 48.4% from the field and held Otterbein to just 33.3% from the field.
The story would continue in the third quarter as the Crusaders would continue to play great defense and forcing turnovers. With 6:57 left to go in the quarter Otterbein would have to use a time out after Emma Burns would drill a three to extend the lead to 49-25. The very next possession Bosch hit another three which made the score 52-25.
Cassidy Bosch after a steal would set up Regan Stonerock with an and-one fast break opportunity extending the Crusader lead to 56-29.
The third quarter would finish with a 63-37 Capital lead over Otterbein.
The Crusaders did not take their foot off the gas at the start of the fourth quarter. A couple of buckets by Emily Wachtman and Cassiady Bosch would extend the lead to 67-39. Wachtman would earn her a double-double after a rebound and put back with an and-one. Crowd was electric during the forth quarter as Capital continued to blow out Otterbein making it their second blow out in consecutive games. Head Coach Dixie Jeffers would send the back ups in with 5:11 to go up 69-43 on the Cardinals. The Crusaders would only score 6 points in the remaining 4 minutes of the game but the blow out was already in place a 74-58 final score.
Cassidy Bosch would lead all scorers with 20 points 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Emily Wachtman would finish with 11 points, 3 assists and 12 rebounds.
The Crusaders will be back on the court this Wednesday, February 5th against Marietta as they looked to add to their winning streak.
