Capital Men’s Lax Gets Back on Track in 14-11 Win Over Depauw

Capital University Men’s Lacrosse team ready for game against Depauw University

The Crusaders came into today’s matchup with the Depauw Tigers with one win and two in the loss column looking to get back on track. Led by captain and senior, C.J Hughes, they got off to a hot start early, taking a 2-0 lead. Capital cooled off toward the end of the first after giving up 3 straight goals and surrendering the lead, down 3-2 after the first quarter.

This game was a battle all the way into half time with goals coming early and often. Junior Tyler McCoy of the Depauw Tigers led all scorers with 3 goals heading into halftime with the score tied at six. 

Depauw came out hot in the third quarter scoring 3 unanswered goals and putting them up 9-6 but that didn’t last long as the Crusaders came marching back, scoring 7 straight goals in less than 15 minutes of action. 

Sparked by a series of goals by midfielder, Luke Wyatt, the Crusaders finished the game on an eight to two goal run, winning the match 14-11. 

This game saw plenty of momentum swings, but the Capital Men’s Lacrosse team found a way to overpower the Tigers of Depauw University. The Tigers’ Tyler McCoy led all players with 4 of Depauw’s eleven goals. Senior Talbott Gottwals and sophomore Jack Scharner led the Crusaders with 3 goals each including the goal to put the game out of reach by Jack Scharner late in the fourth quarter. 

Capital now sits at 2-2 on the year and will look to take on a tough Wooster University team on Wednesday, March 4th. Wooster has scored 33 goals in two games this season.
